4 Hair Removal Tips for Summer

It’s summertime, and boy, is it hot, hot hot! If you prefer to remove body hair, summer is definitely a time when you went your skin to be smooth, hair-free, and free of irritation like ingrowns and razor burn! But is such a thing possible? With these 4 tips, I say heck yes!

Tip #1: Deal with the root of the problem

When I say to deal with the root of your body hair, I mean the literal root of the hair! Removing your body hair from the root will give you more time hair-free. That means no more shaving every single day, but instead a sugaring appointment only once a month! Sounds way better, right?

Sugaring is a method of hair removal which removes hair from the root. Your sugarist will use a ball of sugar paste, which is made of 3 all-natural ingredients (sugar, water, and lemon juice). The paste is applied onto the skin against the hair growth, and flicked with the direction of the hair growth. The application allows the paste to seep into the follicles and surround the hairs, and the flick remove these hairs from the root. Removing the hair with the hair growth (the opposite of waxing) is more gentle on the skin, leads to fewer broken hairs, and less irritation, for smoother, longer-lasting results.

Tip #2: Exfoliate your skin

Whether you are sugaring or shaving, your skin will benefit from exfoliation. Exfoliating will remove the dead skin cells built up on the surface of your skin leading to dryness and a bumpy texture. I recommend exfoliating before sugaring or shaving to ensure the smoothest results possible!

Some of my top favorite ways to exfoliate the skin on your body are:

  • exfoliating gloves in the shower
  • dry brushing (either before or after a shower, up to your preference)
  • DIY body scrub in the shower

The keys to beneficial exfoliation are to be gentle (no scrubbing your skin off!) and to follow up with moisture, which leads me to…

Tip #3: Moisturize your skin

It seems really counter-intuitive to moisturize certain areas of the body, like our underarms or our bikini/Brazilian area. But let me tell you, moisturized skin makes all of the difference in the world when it comes to preventing ingrowns and irritation!

Skin that is too dry will trap hairs from growing properly, leading to ingrown hairs. And dry skin can’t protect itself and heal the same way healthy, moisturized skin can, which will lead to uncomfortable irritation.

For the skin in those intimate areas, I recommend Finipil to moisturize and protect, as it is also antibacterial and antimicrobial. You can also use any facial moisturizer that doesn’t break your skin out, or rosehip oil. For larger body areas like legs, arms, and tummies, I recommend Amlactin lotion, or any other lotion that doesn’t cause your skin to become irritated.

Tip #4: Stay consistent

The number 1 way to get the absolute best results with body hair removal is to be consistent! Stick to your sugaring appointments every single month and be amazed at the low-maintenance, smooth skin results.

Your hair grows in cycles, and our goal with sugaring is to get all of the hairs onto the same schedule – active. When removing the hair in the anagen, or active phase, up to 30% of the hairs don’t grow back! Monthly sugaring appointments are the best way to get your hair into the same growth cycle, which will also give you the longest-lasting results in between services.
