Hyaluronic Acid

What is hyaluronic acid?

In short, hyaluronic acid (HA) is a hydrating fluid. The name “acid” is quite misleading, as HA is not harsh or stripping.

It is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG), which means it it a large protein molecule which holds water (hydration) in fibers and in the middle layer of the skin (the dermis). Its hydrophilic nature makes HA a tremendous hydrator.

HA keeps skin plump and young-looking. Its production within the body and skin naturally begins to decrease around the age of 40. Including HA in skincare will help maintain moisture and plumpness.

What kind of skin likes hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring within your skin and body, so, by nature, all skin types like HA. Dehydrated skin will particularly benefit from HA, because it hydrates the skin so effectively.

Oily and acne-prone skin types are not exempt from benefits from HA! These skin types need hydration just as much as dry or dehydrated skin, as a healthy skin with a healthy skin barrier will more effectively fight acne and shininess.

How should I use hyaluronic acid?

You can use HA-including products anytime. Hydrating mists are great at any point during the skincare routine, after makeup, or anytime throughout the day as a refreshing treat. Hydrating serums are best after cleansing and toning, and before or mixed in with moisturizer.

You’re looking glowier already!
